Colon Cancer Symptoms

When you reach the age of 40, it is very important that you start some regular colon checks and be aware of colon cancer symptoms. When we reach 40 and older, the incidence of cancer begins to rise. If you can be one of those that catch the cancer early, then you have a better chance of fighting this terrible disease.

The colon cancer symptoms that you need to be watching for are:

1.Blood in the stool: This is typically the first sign and one that you will not want to ignore. This is very important to have this checked out.

2.Weight Loss: This is usually due to the implications a tumour will place on your digestive system making it difficult and painful to eat.

3.Pain in the Abdomen: There may be pain in the abdomen which can be blocked by the tumour, the digestive system may become backed up or cut off.

4.Changes noticed in the bowel: There may be diarrhoea or constipation, along with gas and bloating. Any significant changes in the stool needs to checked out.

What is Colon cancer and what causes it?

The colon and the rectum are part of the large intestine. Colon cancer usually starts in the colon and can spread to the rectum. This is diagnosed as colorectal cancer. There is no definite cause to colon cancer, but there have been some major risk factors made known, which are age, genetics, diet, and alcohol.

Colon cancer symptoms are nothing to take lightly as we are all at risk, especially when we reach a certain age. If you have anyone in your family that has been diagnosed with colon cancer, or if you have ulcerative colitis, then you are at an even greater risk and will want to have a regular colonoscopy for preventative measures. If there are any polyps discovered, these can easily be removed during the colonoscopy.

By watching for and treating colon cancer symptoms may be the only way to save your life from a painful future of cancer treatments and the emotional drain it puts on you both physically and emotionally. Take care of yourself and your future by watching for these symptoms and getting regular checkups.
