Colon Cancer Diet

Is there a way to prevent colon cancer, or at least lower the risk? The way to do this is through a colon cancer diet. Colon cancer has affected the lives of many either with the changes it makes or the end it brings. Colon cancer is found to be a genetic disease, so if you have someone in your family who has been diagnosed, you are at a much greater risk.

The best way for you prevent this from affecting your life is, of course, regular checkups, which will include the very important colonoscopy. The other thing that you can do is in implement a healthy colon cancer diet. What you eat will be the best prevention you do for your body.

Colon cancer is a disease of the digestive system, which associates itself naturally with your diet. As you understand more about the digestive system, you will have a better understanding as to why this diet is so crucial to your health.

You have grown up being told the importance of eating your vegetables, well you need to follow that advice and eat your vegetables as well as your fruit and whole grains. The great thing about fruits and vegetables, they have their own little color code to help you know which ones to eat. The fruits and vegetables that are the bright yellows, reds, orange and green are those highest in antioxidants. The vegetables that are rich in natural cancer fighting chemicals are broccoli, cabbage and Brussels sprouts. If you can add some whole grains, then you are on the road to prevention. This is a colon cancer diet that will arm your body with the healthy defence system, providing a stronger immune system, and keeping your colon clear and healthy.

Not only do you want to add foods to your colon cancer diet, you want to avoid some foods as well. Some of the foods that have been linked to colon cancer are foods high in fat. Red meat is something that should be eaten sparingly as this has a large amount of saturated fat. Some of the other foods are your and my favorites, cake, pastries, ice cream, donuts, cookies, brownies, French fries and hamburgers, pizza, ok…I will stop there. I am making myself hungry.

I am not telling you to never eat these foods, but eat them sparingly. Read your food labels, check to see what you are eating, what you are putting into your body. By eating the bad foods, the fats are broken down by the bile and the digestive juices. There are by-products in these foods that are known to cause neoplastic growths inside the colon. When these are dumped, they increase your risk of cancer. By adding healthy fiber in your diet, you are better able to flush out these toxins keeping your colon cancer free.
